Ledger Stax cold wallet
The Ledger Stax is Ledger most premium cold storage. It is larger than its predecessors and has the simplest navigation. It is arguably the most user friendly. Like the Ledger Flex, it comes with the clear sign feature which allows you to view the transaction information you are approving directly on your device screen. This can reduce the likelihood of costly mistakes and makes approving transactions easier. The Stax also has a customisable lock screen allowing you to display your favourite NFT collections even when your device is off. The Stax has wireless charging if that is something you find useful and comes with a protective agent shell to stop your device getting easily scratched or damaged. However, these features also come with an increased price tag, so it is worth considering what features you need and what is within your budget.
Like the Flex, the Stax comes with a recovery key making unlocking your wallets easier as it eliminates the need to use your seed phrase every time. Don’t forget it is vital to always have a hard copy of your seed phrase in a safe location as it remains the only way to guarantee access to your wallet should something happen to your device. Again, the recovery key is not able to confirm transactions meaning it alone cannot be used to buy, sell or transfer your crypto. Your Ledger device is still required for this the key just provides easy access. However, if someone knew your pin for your recovery key, they could install your wallets onto a new device and have access to all your crypto. So, if you choose to use this, KEEP IT SAFE.
Again, like the Flex, the Stax also has USB-C, Bluetooth and NFC connectivity (the technology used in contactless cards). NFC not only makes connection to your mobile device effortless but also is how the recovery key works. It is also compatible with Windows, Linux, macOS, Android and iOS.
Like the Flex, the Stax has a EAL6+ rating. This is a global standard rating and is one of the highest ratings possible other than EAL7 which is often used in military and government software. This means it has been tested to ensure that it is secure against many sophisticated attacks including physical attacks in which someone gets a hold of your device. The + at the end of the rating means that it has additional security features beyond what is required for an already impressive EAL6 rating.
