Ledger Flex cold wallet

Unlike the Nano X, the Ledger Flex has a touchscreen display which is arguably easier to navigate. The Nano X operates using two small buttons to scroll and select option whereas the Flex allows you to simple select the option you want by tapping. This model as well as the Ledger Stax has the clear sign feature which allows you to see all the transaction details you are approving directly on the device’s screen. This minimises costly mistakes and makes for easier transactions.

Alongside Bluetooth and UCB-C connectivity, the Ledger Flex also supports near field connection (NFC). This is technology is similar to the that used in contactless payments making connection with your mobile device even easier. As with the other Ledger devices discussed, the Flex is Windows, Linux, macOS, Android and iOS compatible.

The Ledger Flex device can also be used as a security key for other services that support passkeys, two-factor and multi-factor authentication meaning that you do not have to remember every password to every account you have. This would include for example, logging into Google, Amazon and X.

Unlike the Ledger Nano X, the Ledger Flex comes with ledger recovery key. Traditionally every time you wanted to restore a wallet on a ledger device you would have to enter your seed phrase manually. The recovery key is a plastic card that allows you to regain access to your device easily without having to type in your seed phrase. The recovery key cannot confirm transactions itself; this must still be done using your Ledger device meaning if someone had access to your recovery card alone, they could not approve transactions. It simply allows easy access to your Ledger device. However, if someone knew your recovery key pin they could restore your wallets onto a new ledger device and gain access to your crypto. If you choose to use this option, it is vital you still keep a hard copy of your seed phrase and keep it safe as if someone has access to your seed phrase they can set up a new device and gain full access to your wallet.

The Leger Flex also comes with a slightly higher level of security than the Nano X which has a EAL5+ security rating. The Flex has an EAL6+ security rating, this means the chips have the same level of security used in banks and e-passports. This rating means that it has been tested against even more advanced and sophisticated attacks. The + again means that there is extra safeguarding and security measure than is needed to acquire a EAL6 rating.
